Hey friends,
I’ve been working on something new behind the scenes, something a little different, a little out of my comfort zone, but so exciting… and I think it’s time I finally shared it with you.
I’ve started making handcrafted soaps and whipped tallow.
Yep. Made right here on the farm, in small batches, using ingredients I know and trust, like creamy goat milk from our herd and nutrient-rich tallow rendered from local, grass-fed beef.
Soap making is something I’ve been curious about for a long time, but never quite brave enough to try. That changed recently when my mother-in-law gave me full access to her old craft shack. Having a dedicated space and her encouragement was exactly what I needed to take that leap.
Now the shelves are filling with soaps that smell like summer gardens, cedar wood forests, and cozy kitchen spice… and I’m officially hooked.
Soaps & Tallows with Heart
Each bar and jar I make is packed with real ingredients and a lot of heart, and all of it starts right here on the farm.
- Many of my soaps are made with raw goat milk from our Mini Nubian herd and grass-fed tallow (why choose when you can have both, right?)
- My tallow-focused bars are blended with fresh West Virginia mountain spring water, collected right here on our land. Clean, cold, and clear as it gets
- Soon I will also be making my mother-in-laws famous goat milk soap recipe as well, so stay tuned for that. I know it was her most popular item back when she was making soaps and I’m so honored that she shared her special recipe with me
- I use phthalate-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free fragrance oils in my soaps, keeping them gentle and safe for most skin types. I also make many batches that are scent-free bars as well
- For whipped tallow, I stick to essential oils (or unscented) to keep them extra nourishing and family-friendly
No fillers, no fluff, just honest ingredients, old-fashioned methods, and a whole lot of care. Every batch is made in small quantities, cured with patience, and wrapped with love.
Where to Find My Products
Right now, you can find my soaps and whipped tallow locally stocked at:
- Laurel River Club Bed & Breakfast (LRC BNB)
- Wach’s Garden & Gallery (Located in Davis, WV)
Both of these spots have supported local makers in such a meaningful way, and I’m honored to have my work on their shelves. If you’re in the area, swing by, take a peek (and a sniff), and grab a few bars to gift or treat yourself.
An online shop is in the works, too, so stay tuned!
Why This Matters
This little soap venture might not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, but to me, it’s huge. It’s a step into something I was always a little afraid to try. It’s creative, hands-on, and deeply rooted in the land and animals that surround me every day.
It fits alongside the earrings I’ve been making with my laser engraver, and the many other handmade ideas I have spinning in my brain. It feels like me, just a little sudsier.
